SHOWCASE EVENTS - Are they right for me?

There are generally two types
Showcase days/Events - Prospect Days

Prospect Camps are generally held by a one specifical school on campus to promote as a camp or recruitment opportunity for an individual to go to their school.

Showcase events come at different levels. Some are national and multiple days, others a regional and in front of an event. Most of them include a stipend payment for coaches to attend to help coach individual registered players placed on showcase teams. Take a look at what the event promotes. How many games, will they be filmed, who is attended and who can get in, and how many spots are available.

Some are different, but most of them are the same. What it really boils down to is an individual registration and added cost to the tournament host to participate in more games (3 in this case). They offer showcase opportunities generally a day before a tournament event. This one includes three games along with film, entirely coached by college coaches, playing other showcase teams all made up of individuals playing the other showcase teams all coached byu college coaches. It's an opportunity for players to play at a high level, but as an individual not specifically a part of a club team. It will provide added exposure for recruitment, added game film, and a little bit of a unique opportunity having the college coach directly coach the individual. So, in the end, it's more potential for recruitment, and it exposes a little bit of a different skill set and unique factors to be able to make it players take that extra step with confidence to stand out on their own.

What you "dont generally receive" is a critical link between an athlete and club coach representative which is a massive tool in networking, connectivity, and endorsement for the participant. That being said is where we stand out! Our directors and most of our coaches attend showcases at ALL showcase events linked to the tournaments we attend! We film highlight game footage of the games we can cover, and are available for immediate onsite networking communications. It's actually unfortunate to see how many club coaches do not attend these showcase events to not only watch and support their student athletes, but also aid in providing this critical link. Fresh and immediate feedback about a player a coach just noticed on the field goes a LONG way!

Ask the questions: Is it within the budget? Does travel/timing work? Am I the right age for a showcase?

We promote the attendance to the event and registering to provide more bang for the buck on the trip. Timing generally works pretty well, and should not overload the player...just prepared for the added rest and readiness. We highly encourage seniors, juniors, and Sophomores to attend. Freshman may be able to register for some events but suggest a discussion with our staff prior to that taking place to see if they are ready.

Always feel free to ask us questions regarding these events! -Coach Husak bhusak@mnloons.org
