Overview: We are excited to announce the commencement of the 2024/2025 Loons Box season! Minnesota Loons continues to be a club that competes at a high caliber and attends national-level events that are not only well organized but also of high value. After an excellent 2023/2024 season, we look forward to fielding additional teams, continuing to play in the local league, and travel to a new competitive event in the Sunshine state!

Local League Games: The Great Northern Winter Box Lacrosse League provides a fun, safe, supportive environment where players can learn, compete, and grow. They use a modified version of the National Lacrosse League rule set for all games, which run on the hour. Each game is staffed by certified officials, EMTs, site managers, and scorekeepers. They also provide mobile-responsive schedules, online statistics, and standings.
Weekly Schedule to be announced and updated on Sports Engine Tourney Machine.
Travel Tournament: Teams will travel to the USBOXLA Southeast Regional Championship in Fort Lauderdale on January 31st-Feb 2nd! Teams will compete in 5 games over the course of the weekend, and have the opportunity to qualify for USBOXLA Nationals.
CONSIDERATIONS:
There were a number of events that we considered for this Box season. In January of 2024, we attended the Team IL Invite Box Tournament. Unfortunately for 2025, this event will not be taking place within the same month.. We chose the stick with that same time frame for an event to target for the 2024/2025 season. Here are a few events we considered and rationale leading up to “why” we chose the Southeast Regional Championship.
Lax in the Zoo: Kalamazoo MI. Dec 20-22nd. The event lands on the weekend before Christmas. We felt there would be too many Holiday / Family gatherings to conflict with this event.
Goodland: Milwaukee WI. Jan 25, 26. We felt the level of competition / attending teams from 2024 was not the desired level of competition that we would like to see.
Resolute Midwest Classic: Jan 18-20th. MLK weekend. Airfare is a bit too expensive and travel is a bit too far to commit to the drive over the weekend. This event also required three nights of hotel stay / travel expenses, with games only taking place in the evenings of those days. The other “Resolute tournament” is during our local league play.
SELECTED EVENT- USBOXLA Southeast Regional Championships Jan 31-Feb 2- We chose this event based on a number of factors. Competitive teams with multiple divisions of play. Destination event for families to travel to with a multitude of airfare/travel options for affordable options. An option to qualify for the national event. The kicker….games are to be played at an outdoor venue in the sunshine state!
