Directors Workshop: The "Week of recruiting events" what to do (2025-2026 Athletes and Parents)

26 Jun by Brandon Husak

**For Athletes and Parents. Parents please ensure that your children are taking the time to pursue and distribute these messages! WE ARE HERE TO HAVE FUN AND HERE TO DO WORK!!

Few Easy Steps::::: HERE IS WHAT TO DO!

1) Athletes log into IMLCA / IWLCA Recruits profile. All 2025/2026 will have one under our umbrella (if you dont have one contact bhusak@mnloons.org asap).

2) Head over to event website. Example https://www.teamillinoislax.com/summershowcase and find the list of attending coaches.

3) compare the schools on the list to schools of your interest through the filter resource found on IM/WLCA Recruits platform, top right SCHOOLS tab. Find schools that are attending the event-measure up to your interest.

4) Cast the Net! Email or simply click on that school and email all staff a short simple message to get them to come watch you! Example

Hello Coach___
Hope your summer is going well. My name is ____ ________. I am a 2026 defensemen from ______. I play for Minnesota Loons ____ Team, and wear number __. I will be attending the TI Invite this weekend. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity for you to evaluate me and see me play. I have interest in your school, majors and lacrosse program. You can find more info about me here on my IMLCA profile.

I understand that you are busy so thank you for your time and I look forward to following with you after the event. Please feel free to connect with our program director Brandon Husak at bhusak@mnloons.org 6514020459 with any further questions. Thank you again for the opportunity. -

-Dont make the email to the coach too long. Keep it simple. Keep it short, even a few lines will do. Build your IM/WLCA Recruiting file. Coaches will hop over to read more about you! LET WHAT YOU WRITE ABSORB. Too long of a message they will just keep moving along because they have too many emails to review!

-PUT IN THE TIME. The more effort you put in, the more you will get out!

-KEEP IN MIND that some schools especially Div 1 coaches receive thousands of emails. Know you school level and have a good idea of school that are within your range and even some that are slightly out of your range! This certainly may change and evolve with continued skill set, academic improvements, and overall experience. Feel free to reach out for feedback or an evaluation pertaining to your skill set and proper recruitment goals!

-Let your profile on the recruiting platform do the talking. Complete the entire thing. Make it robust and let it share the info to the reader to keep them wanting more. All of that in an email can just be too much!

-FOR ONE AND ALL! When you write a coach, get them to your sideline…your getting that coach to OUR sideline. Its contagious. More coaches see a crowd they will want to come over and check it out. For ALL rising senior and rising Juniors games we have our players walk the sidelines directly after the post game handshake and ALSO shake and thank the college coaches who have watched our game. Thank them for their time! Be appreciative, polite, and make eye contact….it goes a LONG WAY!!

-WE CAN SEE if a coach views your profile, watches your film, and even the messages that are exchanged. We will monitor. Ask us questions.

-THE FOLLOW UPS. Let this get out there. Get them on your game. Follow up with a thank you if you met the coach or had further messages. If you dont hear back follow up a little later with any film highlights from the event. Go from there

Good luck this week, and keep putting in that work….off field too!
